The security-development nexus: a structural violence and human needs approach Chapter uri icon

abstract

  • The security-development nexus is increasingly vital because of the realization that there can be no long-term security without development and vice versa. The linkages between the two concepts and their evolution over the last few decades are explored. The rise of the concept of human security is also analysed as is its linkages to development. The perspective of structural violence and human needs is adopted and linkages between these two concepts is explored accompanied by policy implications for the security-development nexus.
