Coming to life: biotechnology in African economic recovery. Book uri icon

abstract

  • This volume focuses on the role of biotechnology in the economic development of Africa. It explores the urgent need for African governments to pay more attention to developing policies, institutions and training supportive of technology. The book also examines the particular issues thrown up by developing and deploying biotechnology research in Africa - including intellectual property rights, access to genetic resources, and implications for biodiversity, bio-safety and trade. The contributors argue that lack of policy relating to the harnessing of new technologies is a key obstacle to Africa's economic recovery that must be overcome.
